Stade 1620

Year: 2019

Interactive VR experience

This project, commissioned by the Schwedenspeicher Museum in Stade, Lower Saxony, and undertaken within the context of a research associate post at the HafenCity University, Hamburg, involved the reconstruction of the entire town of Stade in the year 1620, based on a 3D scan of a model of the city.

This project, for which I acted as developer and 3D artist, saw the 3D modelling of the entire environment using the scan data as well as satellite information for the surrounding landscape. The VR implementation, including interaction design and visual development, was carried out using Unreal Engine 4. Visitors are able to explore the environment freely using VR teleportation, navigate using a map, find out more information about various buildings by reading interactive info-boards, and jump between the historical visualisation and present-day 360-degree photo spheres at specific points in the town.
